Youth Council applicants should follow the seven fundamental principles of the American Red Cross: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality. In addition, applicants must have a desire to serve their community, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated.
The benefits of Youth Council membership for the student include: an enhanced concern for others, scholarship opportunities, community service hours, leadership camp opportunities and potential youth leadership at the regional or national level.
Youth Council members learn valuable leadership skills that they then apply. Members should be freshmen or sophomores in high school when they begin their terms and serve terms that begin in May and last two years.
The responsibilities of Youth Council members include:
- Attending monthly Youth Council meetings
- Attending Youth Council events
- Representing the chapter’s youth program at chapter events
- Actively participating on a Youth Council committee
The standard application deadline has passed, but we are still looking for representatives from Camas HS, Evergreen HS, Heritage HS, VSAA, Fort Vancouver HS. If you are from one of these schools, we will continue to accept your application.
